Tourism continues to be one of the economic pillars of the province of Seville, representing 20% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this context, the province’s participation in Fitur, the International Tourism Fair, to be held in Madrid from 22 to 26 January, takes on great importance.
This year, the Seville Provincial Council has a clear objective: to attract higher quality tourists, with higher spending, and to offer them exclusive experiences.
Javier Fernández, president of the Provincial Council, stressed that the province’s intention is not to reject tourism, but to improve it. ‘We want tourists who value tranquillity and seek unique products, such as olive and wine tourism, which are highly valued by travellers,’ he said. In this sense, Seville‘s tourism offer will focus on quality tourism, with a strong focus on sustainability and avoiding the saturation of large agglomerations.
The province is also committed to varied proposals that include gastronomy, heritage, nature and history. These experiences seek to highlight the richness and diversity of Seville‘s municipalities, always with a respectful approach to the environment and heritage.
Direct Flight to Miami: A Key Factor for Growth
One of the hot topics on Seville‘s agenda is the direct flight to Miami. Fernández stressed that this flight is crucial for the province, as American tourists are the second largest group of international visitors.
‘It is essential that the flight to Miami arrives in Seville, not in Malaga,’ he said, calling on the authorities to ensure this direct connection, which he considers essential to maintain the province’s competitiveness in the global market.
Seville’s proposals and activities at Fitur 2025
The Seville Provincial Council will kick off its participation in Fitur with a promotional event in Madrid on 21 January, the day before the official opening of the fair. This event will be aimed at tour operators, content creators, specialised media and other players in the sector, and will serve to showcase the province’s tourism and gastronomic offerings.
In addition, a tasting of Seville‘s gastronomy will be offered, which will allow attendees to learn more about local flavours and products.
At Fitur, Seville will be represented by around 50 municipalities, which will present their tourism offerings through more than 60 presentations. Throughout the five days of the fair, new projects will be unveiled that aim to further strengthen the province’s position as a tourist destination.
Tourism Growth in Seville: Positive Numbers in 2024
According to data available up to November 2024, the province of Seville has registered a notable increase in tourism. Hotel establishments in Seville‘s municipalities (excluding the capital) received 753,421 travellers, representing a growth of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2023. In addition, overnight stays increased by 12.25%, reaching more than 1.3 million.
This increase has been mainly driven by international tourism, which has experienced a 13.58% growth in the number of travellers and 21% in overnight stays.
