Miami-Dade is establishing itself as a leader in global tourism, generating a significant impact on the local economy. According to the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) visitors contributed over $21.1 billion to the economy during the fiscal year 2023-2024. This amount represents a 3% increase compared to the previous year.
Increase in Visitor Arrivals
The growth in tourism revenue is partly due to a remarkable 9.6% increase in international arrivals at Miami International Airport, which reached 10.6 million passengers by August. Additionally, PortMiami is expected to exceed 7.3 million cruise passengers this year.
Successful Outcomes for the Hotel Sector
During its fiscal year, from October 2023 to September 2024, Greater Miami and Miami Beach surpassed their targets, achieving over 103% in hotel bookings. This resulted in more than 406,000 room nights sold, accomplishing an impressive 111% of the established goal.

Effective Marketing Strategies
The GMCVB attributes these successes to a marketing strategy focused on highlighting Miami’s cultural diversity and vibrant nightlife. They have intensified efforts to attract new visitors from key international markets. David Whitaker, President and CEO of GMCVB, stated:
“We seized every opportunity to tell our destination’s story.”
Moreover, 16 new conventions and major trade shows have been booked at the Miami Beach Convention Center, underscoring the area’s appeal as an event destination.
Focus on Sustainability
The GMCVB‘s annual meeting also emphasized the importance of sustainability in tourism. Eight new members were appointed to the board, including prominent figures like Yamila Garayzar and Richard Sasso. The GMCVB reaffirms its commitment to sustainable practices that benefit both tourists and local residents.
Miami remains an attractive and dynamic tourist destination. With a renewed focus on marketing and sustainability, the future of tourism in Miami-Dade looks promising. The combination of rich cultural offerings and robust tourist infrastructure ensures that Miami will continue to be a favored location for both domestic and international visitors.
