DDTM Premieres New Works in Upcoming Performance

Since its founding in 2016, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami (DDTM) has stood out for presenting innovative contemporary works in the field of ballet. This Saturday, November 16, the company will hold a special program at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center, featuring three significant premieres.

Featured Premieres in the Program

The event will include the Miami premiere of “Chopin Variations” by Samuel Kurkjian, as well as the premieres of “Something to Remember You By” by Stephanie Martínez and “Surrender” by Jerry Opdenaker. The evening will conclude with “Imagined Notions,” a incredible work created by Yanis Pikieris, the resident choreographer of DDTM.

Jennifer Kronenberg, co-founder and artistic director of DDTM, describes the program as “Facets.” Each piece represents a different aspect of contemporary ballet and its evolution throughout the 20th century.

“Chopin Variations”: A Modern Classic

“Chopin Variations” is the most traditional work in the program. Choreographed by the late Samuel Kurkjian, this fourteen-minute piece is performed with music by the renowned Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. Eight dancers from the company, including Emily Bromberg and Maikel Hernández, will bring this work to life.Kurkjian, who joined the Boston Ballet in 1968, left a significant legacy in dance. His musical and choreographic style has influenced many contemporary dancers and choreographers.

New Creations: “Surrender” and “Something to Remember You By”

The work “Surrender,” choreographed by Jerry Opdenaker, presents an emotional duet inspired by a painting by Nigel Van Wieck. The piece portrays a conversation between a couple before the moment captured in the artwork. Rafael Ruiz del Vizo and Melissa Verdecia will interpret the lead roles.On the other hand, “Something to Remember You By” is a creation by Stephanie Martínez, who seeks to empower diversity in contemporary ballet. This piece includes music from composers such as Bach and Tchaikovsky and features twelve dancers.

Celebrating Contemporary Dance

The performance will culminate with “Imagined Notions,” an energetic work that explores various group dynamics.
