Joe Biden meets Edmundo González at the White House

The White House hosted an important meeting. Joe Biden welcomed Edmundo González, the venezuelan opposition candidate who claims to have defeated Nicolás Maduro in the recent elections.

The next friday begins the new presidential term in Venezuela. The writer and retired diplomat is searching support for his effort to get Maduro out of office.

Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, Paraguay, Ecuador and Dominican Republic are some nations that support the diplomat in Latin America.

Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom algo share their symphathy with Edmundo González, who get reunited with Joe biden in the United States.

More than 30 countries, and the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro supports the triumph of the venezuelan opposition candidate.

Joe Biden meets Edmundo González

The U.S. President and the diplomat agreed that González’s “campaign victory should be honored through a peaceful transfer back to democratic rule,”.

“The people of Venezuela deserve a peaceful transfer of power to the true winner of their presidential election,” Joe Biden said on X the last monday.

They discussed efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela. They said that have a “deep concern regarding Nicolas Maduro and his representatives’ unacceptable and indiscriminate use of repression against peaceful protesters, democracy activists, and civil society.”

“President Joe Biden noted he would be following the planned January 9 protests in Venezuela closely and emphasized Venezuelans should be allowed to express their political opinions peacefully without fear of reprisal from the military and police,” the White House said in a statement.

Nicolás Maduro reacts

Nicolás Maduro watch the meeting of Joe Biden and Edmundo González and said that it was “grotesque” that the U.S. President support a “violent project” to usurp the country’s democracy.

Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello insulted González and threatened him with arrest.

The next presidential term in Venezuela is set to begin Friday.
