Donald Trump and security in Washington ahead of his investiture

Date:

With drones, endless fences, and the mobilization of 25,000 security agents, Washington strengthens its protection for Donald Trump‘s inauguration. The U.S. capital, accustomed to high-risk events, faces an unprecedented logistical challenge under current circumstances.

The inauguration, scheduled for Monday, marks the third high-level “National Special Security Event” in just two weeks.

Unprecedented Preparations and Deployment

Compared to Donald Trump‘s first inauguration eight years ago, fewer visitors are expected on January 20. Nevertheless, the deployment of security measures is significantly greater. Authorities have installed 30 miles of anti-climb fences around key areas. This perimeter includes the White House, the Capitol, and parts of the parade route on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Secret Service, led by Special Agent Matt McCool, has mobilized 25,000 security and military personnel to ensure protection during the event. The security plan includes checkpoints at strategic locations, rooftop snipers, tactical teams on the ground, and drones patrolling the skies.

“We are in a higher-threat environment, which compels us to implement a stricter plan,” McCool stated.

Past Threats Against Donald Trump

The history of threats against the Republican magnate underscores the necessity of these extraordinary measures. During the presidential campaign, an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania resulted in one fatality. Later, a rifle was found aimed at the golf course where Donald Trump was located, exposing operational failures in security.

Recent events, such as a truck attack in New Orleans and a van explosion in Las Vegas, have heightened national security concerns. Although no specific threats against the ceremony have been identified, authorities consider the “lone actor” to be the greatest risk.

Ceremony Under Strict Surveillance

J. Thomas Manger, Chief of the Capitol Police, reported that 250,000 ticketed guests are expected to attend Donald Trump‘s inauguration. A combination of visible and invisible measures will protect attendees and the president-elect. “Security has never been this robust,” McCool assured.

The day of Donald Trump‘s inauguration is shaping up to be a historic event, not only for its political significance but also for the unprecedented security deployment. Washington is prepared to face any eventuality during this crucial act.
