Donald Trump, U.S. President, has announced a Gold Car that plans to replace the EB-5 immigrant investor visa option. The “Gold Card“, with cost of 5 million dollars, would offer a fast-track route to American citizenship.
The president revealed that the EB-5 visa program, launched in 1990 to stimulate economic growth by attracting foreign investment, will be replaced by this premium-priced alternative
People like the Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have criticized the EB-5 inmigrant investor visa options. He argued that it has been plagued by fraud and loopholes, so the “Gold Card”, proposed by Donald Trump, is an option to solve this problem.
“We are going to be selling a Gold Card. We are putting a price on that card of about 5 million dollars. It will provide green card privileges and serve as a path to U.S. citizenship“, Donald Trump said.
Who can apply for the “Gold Card”, proposed by Donald Trump?
Full details of the Gold Card program are expected within two weeks. Donald Trump said that wealthy individuals worldwide could qualify, including Russian oligarchs.
“Yeah, possibly. Hey, I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people”, said the U.S. President.
Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Commerce, said the launch will give the privileges of the green card, which is currently issued to permanent residents in the United States.
Actually exists two visa investors options in the United States: E-2 and EB-5, which Donald Trump and his administration seek to replace with the “Gold Card”. The first allows a person to move to the United States to operate a business or invest in a company.
