Donald Trump, the elected President of the United States, arrived in Washington DC to celebrate his second inauguration with his family, supporters, and political allies. The celebrations for his return to power began on Saturday night with a fireworks display at Trump National Golf Club, located in Sterling, Virginia, approximately 48 kilometers from the U.S. capital. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Monday.
Melania, his wife, and Barron, his son, accompanied the Republican leader to Washington DC. The three of them disembarked from the U.S. military C-32 aircraft on a flight dubbed Special Air Mission 47, named in honor of the businessman becoming the 47th president of the United States. They landed after 7:00 PM at Dulles Airport in Virginia, where media outlets were waiting to take dozens of pictures. After this encounter, they departed for their regular residence in West Palm Beach, Florida. This trip marks the beginning of his second term as president of the United States.
Despite preparations for the celebrations, activities in honor of Donald Trump have been rushed and modified at the last minute due to the low temperatures forecasted for the U.S. capital. The inauguration is expected to become the coldest in 40 years, adding an additional challenge to the inauguration day festivities.
“There was a very bad forecast in terms of cold, and it would have been dangerous for many people, the crowds, and everything else. I think we made the right decision. We will be very comfortable now,” said the businessman in an interview with NBC News regarding his choice to change the location of his presidential inauguration.
The steps of the Capitol are the traditional location where thousands gather to watch the new U.S. president publicly swear allegiance and uphold the constitution. Instead, the inauguration of the magnate, as well as that of JD Vance, will take place in the Capitol Rotunda. This hasn’t happened since 1985, when former President Ronald Reagan took the oath of office.
Donald Trump and his wife Melania will spend the night at Blair House, the official residence for the president’s guests. This property, located across from the White House, has hosted numerous international leaders during official visits to the U.S. capital. Their stay at Blair House marks the start of his second term as president, amid anticipation for his inauguration celebrations, but also some protests, such as one by a feminist group that took to the streets advocating for women’s rights, which they believe are threatened by the incoming administration.
The magnate and Republican politician will hold his first large-scale rally this Sunday. The event, dubbed the “Victory Rally,” will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC. It is expected to be a show of political strength, as Trump will be joined by several influential personalities. Among the guests will be his vice president, JD Vance, and entrepreneur Elon Musk, who has been one of Trump’s most significant allies in recent years.
